Our Verdict

Yeti creates some of the most innovative cooler products. From the usual coolers made of cheap plastics, they were able to make high-quality cooler models. They also proved their products to be durable. The Yeti 110 is ideal for any type of outdoor activity like camping, hunting, and fishing.

The company offers a variety of products that range from small, medium to large-sized coolers.  However, many people, especially Yeti enthusiasts, are raving about the Yeti Tundra 110.

Yeti made this specifically for rafting activities. But like any other Yeti products, this model is great for other activities and trips. It can withstand any season, temperature, and distance and has durability to spare.

They made the YETI Tundra 110 with rotomolded polyethylene construction. It is also the same process used when making whitewater kayaks.  This ensures that your cooler is highly durable and impact-resistant. It can survive drops, beatings, and attacks from wild animals. Even the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee certified that Yeti 110 is bear-resistant. You can’t ask for something tougher than that. The cooler will remain intact and cold, no matter what.

The style and design of this cooler are also perfect for minimalists. It comes in white color, which makes the cooler look simple but sleek.  Plus, the No Sweat design makes it appear dry and neat on the outside. The thick wall of the cooler contains PermaFrost insulation. Also, with its FatWall design, the cooler can resist outside heat and temperature.

Another feature of Yeti Tundra 110 you’ll like is its leak proof drain plug which makes draining much easier. You can easily remove the liquids without having to tilt the cooler. For a smaller cooler that may not be a big deal, but on one this size it’s a real must have.

According to the company website, you can pack this bad boy with 150 cans or 102 pounds of ice. But no matter how heavy the cooler is, you can securely carry it around because of its double haul handles. These are heavy-duty textured grips made from military-grade nylon rope. You may need a friend to take one side, but the stress won’t crack the handles.

The rubberized T-Rex latches in front of the cooler securely seal the base and lid. This prevents and blocks the heat from going inside the cooler. This is also the reason ice life may extend up to 7 days. So, if you are looking for a cooler that fits both land and water adventures, the Yeti Tundra 110 is a superb choice!

Reasons to Buy:

  • Possibly one of the toughest and most durable coolers you will ever use
  • That boast of ice staying frozen for up to 7 days? That’s no joke.
  • Incredible capacity to store ice/drinks/food
  • No silly gimmicks like those coolers with built in blenders and such that sacrifice storage for needless extras

Reasons to Shop Around:

  • The elephant in the room is definitely the price. This is an expensive cooler, there’s no way around it.
  • If you’re not serious about your outdoor trips and plan to spend days out on a boat or in the woods with a lot of drinks/ice/food, this is probably more than you need.

Breakdown by Category

With room for over 100 lbs of ice that it promises it can keep frozen for an entire week, the Yeti Tundra 110 talks a good game. It’s from one of the industry’s best known brands so it has to have followed through on its claims and, based on my experience, it definitely does.

Durability

They say the Yeti Tundra can withstand a bear attack. I’ve never seen a bear in the wild so I never had the chance to test that and, to be honest, I didn’t want to. But I can say this thing went through a rough weekend with family and friends. It fell off the back of the truck once because of some bad packing. We used it as a footstool about a hundred times and a dinner table more than once as well. It stood up to everything and only had dirt smudges to show for it which were easily wiped away.

Every part of this cooler is tough, as tough as anything you would expect. Can you damage it? Probably, but whatever is going to dent this is going to hit it hard and I don’t think you can fault Yeti for that.

Performance

The claim that this could keep ice frozen for 7 days was one I found hard to believe. Or that it’d be one of those things where they tested it in a lab and didn’t open it once in a week after packing it to the brim and at the end of 7 days there was a sliver of ice in some cold water. Not the case.

You need to prep this to get the most out of it. The pressure-injected polyurethane foam permafrost walls and that fat wall design offer incredible insulation.I took a tip from a friend and pre-cooled the Yeti in my chest freezer. I laid blocks of ice on the bottom, added drinks, and then filled in the rest with bags of ice cubes. I also included a foam insulated layer on top for whenever someone opened it to grab a drink and maybe forgot to seal it.

I didn’t go out for 7 days; it was four, but we had a lot of ice left over when we were done. I have heard first hand accounts from others that you can absolutely keep ice for a week with no problem. Does it work? 100%,.

Value for Money

My only real gripe with the Yeti Tundra 110 is price. It’s an amazing cooler and high quality so I’m not saying it’s not worth the money, but that doesn’t make it any more affordable. For many people, this cooler is just out of their price range for the use it will see. You’re looking at a price of at least $500 for a Yeti Tundra 110, depending on where you find it.

This is one of those strange situations where I believe the cooler is worth the money they charge for it, but at the same time it’s not a practical option for many people. I wouldn’t say this is good value for the money unless you are heading out camping or fishing a lot. If you can’t use this cooler at least once every month or two, it’s probably better to look for something more cost-effective.

Features

Yeti produced a well-made cooler here and the features it boasts aren’t extravagant, they’re just really high quality.

  • Double haul handles made of military-grade nylon rope
  • Heavy-duty textured grip designed for easier transport
  • LipGrip molded-in handles on the sides
  • Padlock holes for added security
  • Three-inch thick walls for durability and powerful insulation
  • Non-slip rubber feet are also non-marking
  • Pressure-injected polyurethane foam keep the inside cold no matter how hot it gets outside
  • Rotomolded construction makes the cooler more durable and impact-resistant. It’s almost indestructible.
  • T-Rex Latches seal both the base and lid
  • Vortex drain system is leakproof but super easy to use

Portability

One thing that you always need to keep in mind with bigger coolers is portability. It’s awesome to see a cooler with a ton of storage space but then if it’s poorly designed it can be almost impossible to move. You can pack the Yeti to over 100 lbs and that could be really clunky and hard to maneuver.

They designed the handles for the Tundra for two people but one person can easily adapt to the hero role and carry this. It’s not awkward and you can get a good grip which is what’s most important. The size and shape of the cooler is pretty standard, and the no-slip feet mean you can get this in your truck and stack things in and around it without worry of things slipping or not fitting.

Should You Buy the Yeti Tundra 110 Cooler?

If you are an outdoor enthusiast who goes camping, hunting or fishing regularly I can’t recommend this cooler enough. Yes, you should buy it. It’s going to be a serious investment though, so that’s why I only recommend it for those who will get a lot of use out of it. Casual campers, those who go out maybe once a summer, I’d recommend something more cost effective if money is an issue for you. If not, and if you want the best, then buy the Yeti Tundra 110 without feeling guilty. This is one of the best coolers I’ve ever used.
