Cruising Guides by Claiborne S. Young
1. All guides address themselves to one relatively small, specific area. This "narrow and deep" format allows the author to make a comprehensive, ultra-detailed presentation of all data important to the cruising boater. The ICW receives complete coverage, but no more than ALL other navigable coastal water bodies. All of Claiborne's books are kept strictly free of advertising.
2. Every body of water covered in the guides has been personally visited and sounded for the most up to date navigational information. This data includes depths, extensive information on overnight anchorages, danger areas and pertinent data on aids to navigation. There are carefully researched references to bridges with restricted closings and no-wake zones.
3. A complete listing of marinas and their services are presented. All marinas were personally visited-services were verified in person and objectively reported.
4. All guides include restaurant reviews convenient to dockside dining. Extensive information on shoreside attractions (where to go and what to see) is also presented.
5. In addition, the books provide a unique feature not found in other cruising guides - Extensive historical summaries. Claiborne feels strongly that for anyone to truly enjoy their cruise as they should, they must have some appreciation of the heritage of the land and the waters through which they are traveling.
6. Mr. Young is a popular and respected speaker at yacht clubs, United States Power Squadrons, as well as other nautically related clubs. He is a member of the Boat/US speaker's bureau and was asked to be Cruising World's guest speaker at the 1993 Atlantic City Sail Expo. In 1995 he presented three seminars for Coastal Cruising magazine at the 1995 Sail Expo. His intimate knowledge of the ICW and inland bodies of water throughout the Carolinas, Georgia, Florida and the Northern Gulf Coast makes for repeated return requests.
